April meeting recap

April’s meeting was pretty amazing.

Charles gave a presentation on model-driven development with a fairly new Adobe tool called the Adobe Application Model plugin (it’s an Eclipse plugin).

The rest of us were astounded to watch client-side and server-side code – including hibernate – reliably generated from a visual interface. There’s some good information here.

He also gave a second presentation on Adobe’s new ‘web experience management platform’ called CQ5. It was only slightly less impressive than the model-driven development tool.

On top of that we had kind of a lot of pizza and beer.

February meeting recap

February’s meeting was a lot of fun – something like 25 people showed up and had a good time. Thanks again to the folks at Source360 for the space and the pizza.

There will be some links posted here fairly soon – to the style compiler Zack Gordon mentioned, and to notes on font embedding.

We’re also working on topic/speaker for March’s meeting – should be sending out an announcement soon.

Members getting noticed in the greater Adobe community…

A quick shout-out to a couple of our members who made their way into
Remote Synthesis’ weekly “Cool Stuff with the Flash Platform” blog post a couple of weeks ago.

Keith Casey of PHP Architect posted an interview with Adobe’s Christian Cantrell discussing his recent video and blog post showing his iReverse application, written with Adobe Flash, running on 5 different screens including mobile devices and a television.

Corey Butler shows you how to use ColdFusion with Amazon payments.

Nice work gents!

February 17, 2011 = First Meeting of 2011 (aka, a slow start to 2011)

Happy New Year Austin Flex folks!

Coming off the holiday season, Ross and I realized we didn’t have time to get logistics together for a January meeting. So we’ve decided to make February 17th the first official Austin Flex meeting of 2011.

For the Feb meeting, we would like to have:

  • a formal presentation (we will email folks with a list of potential topics to choose from -OR- if you would like to present sometime this year, please let us know)
  • a formal meeting location (update: Thanks to Source360 Group for hosting!)
  • also please let us know if you’d like to sponsor food and/or drinks for the event
  • meeting to be followed by “social networking” over beverages at a local establishment

Next Meeting:

Date: Thursday, February 17 @ 7:00pm
Location: Source360 Group office
The Palisades building
3006 Bee Caves Road, Suite A300
Top corner of building closest Bee Cave Road
View Map
Presentation Topic: TBD (look for an email with potential topics to choose from)
Note: Don’t worry, there will be NO Valentine’s Day theme to the meeting.

P.S. Thanks to the folks who came out for the December gathering a the Gingerman. It was a good event to get to know folks and meet some new folks from the local Flash and ColdFusion groups. Hope folks are enjoying the swag and software they walked away with.

December meeting

We’re joining up with the Flash Platform group on the 15th for a purely social meeting at The Gingerman and The Elephant Room.

We’ll be meeting at the Gingerman around 7:00 pm. We have some space reserved inside under the name ‘Adobe User Group’.

We’ll hang out for awhile and do some raffles/giveaways, and then head over to The Elephant Room at some point.

All MAX 2010 presentations available online

Adobe has done an awesome job of capturing all the MAX 2010 presentations so everyone can benefit from them.

Here’s a link to recordings of the keynotes and sessions from MAX 2010:
http://tv.adobe.com/channel/max/max-2010/

Specifically, here’s a direct link to the DEVELOPER track presentations:
http://tv.adobe.com/show/max-2010-develop/

And a link on the official MAX site:

There are some good presentations out there! Take a few minutes (or hours) and absorb as much as you can.

And if there’s a topic out there that you’d like more info about, propose it as a meeting presentation/discussion topic and we can dig into it further.

October meeting

October’s meeting will be a Drink and Think at Opal Devine’s Marina up north.

Map

The starter topic will be the Flex Util classes. There are a lot of these classes, and they can be super handy – classes like XMLUtil, UIDUtil, ObjectUtil, ColorUtil.

If you’d like to do a little research before the meeting, you can just pull up the Flex language reference, and scroll through the list of classes in the bottom left, looking for any class names that end with ‘Util’.

There are a bunch. You can also look at the mx.utils pacackage – that contains the bulk of the util classes. You could probably also Google some key words.
